Singapore's elderly population is set to double from the current 42000 to 84000 in 2030. This will place a huge drain on the country's resources as more funds will be allocated for the healthcare needs of the elderly.

The elderly themselves often face chronic conditions which require multiple types of medication which often leads to having to consume 5-7 different types of pills and capsules a day.

More often than not, there is some form of non-adherance that comes into effect. The elderly, forget  to take or find taking their medication in a timely manner too cumbersome. The rate of missing a dose per week is as high as 80% even in the controlled environment of nursing homes.

The problem

We at MSQUARE Design Studio, are looking into healthcare solutions that would alleviate the long-term effects of the elderly population on Singapore's resources. Perhaps one day our solutions will be implemented across the world.

Currently, we are focusing on medication management solutions targeted at the elderly and their caregivers. We believe in the importance of adherance to medication as the instances whereby a missed or double dose causes severe complications are not uncommon.

Proper management of medication through reminders, and convenience would help eliminate that possiblity ensuring a healthy elderly population with less financial or psychological burden to their caregivers. Essentially making taking pills stress free.

What can we do?
